Reminiscent of 1980's LA Little Tokyo, Cafe Sushi is the quintessential hole-in-the-wall chowhound destination. All the attention here is paid to the sushi, and the customer is rewarded with a limited but very competent menu. Standard entrees ($14-20) like teriyaki are overshadowed by tasty renditions of the cafe's specialty: sushi far above the standards of the fish served by Porter Exchange establishments. The colorful rainbow rolls ($10.50) combine broiled eel, flying fish roe, and cucumber, all wrapped in assorted fish and avocado. Expect to pay higher prices (a meal for one will run in the mid-$20s) here than in places like Bluefin. Su night sushi specials ($1 per piece on selected items) make Café Sushi more affordable.
