Among the scores of nondescript brick warehouses that spot Kendall, the pink trim of the Garment District shines as a sign of the bargain- shopper's mecca within. You'll find an amazing array of used clothes, shoes, and accessories for men and women. Contemporary items in popular brands average $10-15. In the back room of the store, polyester and psychedelic-print vintage clothes overflow the racks. Brand-new chest wigs, pimp hats, boas, and granny glasses complement anything you may find, especially before Halloween. If you're not satisfied here, try Dollar-a-Pound Plus downstairs, the Garment District's low-brow bargain sister.

Ever wish that the Dollar Store in your local mall sold more than plastic flowers and decade-old makeup? At Dollar-A-Pound Plus, you'll find funky used clothes, records, CDs, books, bags, belts, rollerskates, and even board games--if you're willing to search for them. You'll be digging on all fours with other shoppers, through massive piles of stuff. No false advertising here: the “Plus” stands for “plus a couple of quarters.” Clothes are $1.50/lb (75¢/lb on F), bric-a-brac is $1. No new deliveries Fridays—everything 50¢/lb.

Looking for some serious streetwear? This hip-hop infused store is heavy on men's designer wear and sportsgear, with pricey labels such as Polo and Lacoste. Men can find just about any team's colors on jerseys ($75+, clearance $50) and baseball caps. Limited selection of North Face outerwear for women. Hunt around for more affordable clearance items (T-shirts $3-5, denim jackets $14). A variety of 501s and other denim blues line the back wall, while Timberlands, Adidas and more can be found for your dancing feet.
