This is literally a corner store with a rather unimpressive exterior, but this little store is a great local secret that has a little bit of everything. With an extremely pleasant staff, you can get all sorts of things you might need from a coffee, to band-aids. They also have a fairly acceptable selection of beer and wine.

Maybe the only place where you can stock up on laundry detergent and pick up a tasty, fresh Cuban sandwich or a bag of organic groceries. Montrose Spa's crowded shelves stock the usual convenience store amenities—household items, lotto tickets, and cheap cigars, as well as fresh treats like sweet rolls, breads, and tempting produce. The real secret, though, are the amazing pressed Cuban sandwiches made while you wait. Also, try the delicious chicken salad with cranberries sandwich. At $5+, they're a delicious bargain unknown even to many long-time locals. A scant selection of fresh flowers and inexpensive coffee ($0.60 small, $1.35 regular) make the walk home to the Quad or Dudley Co-op less painful. Credit Cards are accepted only for $10 purchase and up.

C'est Bon Convenience, an offshoot of the popular bakery and sandwich shop chain, offers all the snack and drink essentials without the sketchiness of its predecessor. When Brain Break is less than stellar, head to C'est Bon for candy, chips, sandwiches, or a pint of your favorite ice cream. And when the weekend rolls around, or if you need to drink away the pain of a really bad Brain Break, check out their ample stock of affordable wines and beers, including beer balls. Harvard ID-holders rejoice—Crimson Cash is now accepted for all purchases, except alcohol. Mom and Dad may pay for those late-night munchies, but you're on your own for the 40s that inspire them.

With an indefatigable doorman, banana tree, and pile of firewood in the winter, 7-11 is regrettably one of the only places in the Square to find anything to eat, smoke, or throw at cars after 2am. Pre-made subs, rotating dogs of mystery meat, and suspiciously stuffed bakery sticks are about as substantial as the fare gets, although the Ben & Jerry's and graham crackers with Hershey Bars and marshmallow fluff make as good a late-night snack as any. The cappuccino machine, tub of Red Bull, and decent selection of munchies make 7-11 a worthy pre-cramming caffeine supplier or post-party break. Slow service and interminable lines makes for heavy traffic at (almost all) times. Beer and wine sold M-Sa 11am-10:45pm. Carding is very strict—those without Mass. ID should bring back-up. ATM. Lotto tickets. Slurpees. Sweet.
