Personalize a massage oil or lotion with your favorite scent, from Heliotrope to Heartfelt, or test any of the many earth-friendly skin care products made by this British chain. The Body Shop's cosmetic line boasts fashionable colors and prices to match (most items are $8-18). But this isn't all girlie stuff—granola-crunching, Birkenstock-sporting, ”nature” lovers will swoon over the hemp lip gloss, and your favorite tough guy will secretly treasure the pampering products from the men's Skin Mechanics line. Stop by for invitations to special events that can lead to 25% off your purchases, and don't miss the stock of heavily discounted items (25-75% off) in the back corner.

If you've got just an hour to find an outfit for the formal, look no further than Jasmine Sola. Featuring a smattering of designers such as Juicy Couture and Theory, Jasmine Sola has a variety of dresses ($150-350) as well as jewelry, cosmetics, and accessories. Permanent sale racks offer permanent (false) hope of a bargain in this pricey, if not extortionate, boutique. The Jasmine Shoes around the corner caters to men and women, stocking everything from Diesel to Chinese Laundry. Strict return policy: returns within 7 days with receipt for store credit only. Look for Jasmine at 329 Newbury St. (617-437-8465).

Quit Stalin and head over to Proletariat, recently relocated to the Garage. Proletariat delivers to upscale vintage connoisseurs, with a variety of Lacoste polos, Michael Jackson t-shirts, and '80s bomber jackets at reasonable prices (t-shirts $11+). If wearing someone else's used clothing doesn't appeal to you, Proletariat also sells new items from up-and-coming (read: avant garde) designers, skate-boarding merchandise, and graffiti supplies. Other services include screen printing and iron-on letters for t-shirts. The people have it: Proletariat is the place to go to for designer vintage finds at a fraction of the original price.

The warm, spacious interior of Selletto gives an oddly down-to-earth feel to a shop whose prices may often seem out-of-this-world. Specializing in upscale designer gifts that would otherwise require a trip to Newbury St., Selletto brings a touch of class and style to Harvard's Holyoke Center. If you're looking for an impressive gift for a parent or loved one, Selletto has the french-milled soaps ($7), lamps, vases, dishes, and other extravagant knickknacks that you would never think to buy for yourself. Their limited selection of reasonably priced stuffed animals make great last-minute gifts for birthdays. The friendly staff will help you make the perfect purchase and wrap it up beautifully to boot.

Sporting accolades from the likes of Elle, Cosmo, and most of the Sabliere Society, this modernist venue houses New York Chanel stylist Gino and his well-trained and fashionable underlings. If only the very best will do, drop $115 to have Gino himself trim your lovely locks. Daughter Giuliana is an excellent second choice, having picked up her dad's scissor-wielding ways. A wash, cut, and blow-dry with one of the master's trainees costs $45-75; coloring runs $65-150, perm (without a cut) $100-150, and highlighting $95-250. 10% student discount. All staff cuts are half price on M, so call for an appointment.
