With an indefatigable doorman, banana tree, and pile of firewood in the winter, 7-11 is regrettably one of the only places in the Square to find anything to eat, smoke, or throw at cars after 2am. Pre-made subs, rotating dogs of mystery meat, and suspiciously stuffed bakery sticks are about as substantial as the fare gets, although the Ben & Jerry's and graham crackers with Hershey Bars and marshmallow fluff make as good a late-night snack as any. The cappuccino machine, tub of Red Bull, and decent selection of munchies make 7-11 a worthy pre-cramming caffeine supplier or post-party break. Slow service and interminable lines makes for heavy traffic at (almost all) times. Beer and wine sold M-Sa 11am-10:45pm. Carding is very strict—those without Mass. ID should bring back-up. ATM. Lotto tickets. Slurpees. Sweet.

Imagine Spice, add pictures to the menu, and you've got 9 Tastes. Nearly identical in choice, price, and quality to big sister Spice, 9 Tastes serves the Thai restaurant's extensive array of both standard and creative meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes. Nibble on beef satay or Khao Tang Na Tang (puffed rice cake crackers with shrimp and chicken dip, $6) before diving into your drunken noodles ($10) or mango curry ($12). Spice your meal how you see fit; however, don't miss regional options like the Kha Pla ($13), a “new adventure from Northeastern Thailand” or the conventionally delicious Pad Thai ($7).
Delivery in limited area 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm everyday. $2.00 charge for delivery. Minimum order $10.00.

Fashion footwear on the way to class; why head to Sever when you can kick it to dance tunes and sort through rows of black chunky heels, strappy sandals and hooker boots? Men's and women's styles at reasonable prices, with excellent end-of-season sales up to 50% off. Bag ladies beware: Aldo caters to more than just foot fetishists, with a tempting collection of leather handbags in a variety of styles. Also at Washington St. (617-357-6891), Newbury St. (617-266-0501), and CambridgeSide Galleria (617-494-9008).

As the owner bills it, this boutique is “mini Barney's,” with elegant yet hip designers like MaxStudio, Tahari's new Elite line, Teenflo, and Donald Pliner shoes ($120+). The selection is mainly business and business casual, and be prepared to pay for the high quality you get; suits run $200+, pants $150+, and shirts $80+. Still, a good source for that job interview-acing ensemble.

“Please go away often,” they say. And they'll help you: phone service for airline and train tickets, hotel reservations, vacation packages, and car rentals. Beware, they charge a $50 service fee for airline tickets, $35 for AmEx cardholders; you're better off heading elsewhere for tickets. Instead, come here for their more useful services: currency exchange, travelers checks, and passport photos. Upstairs, financial service offers currency exchange with a $3-5 fee and on-the-spot AmEx Travelers' Cheques (1% fee, no fee for AmEx cardholders). Passport photos $8/2

Harvard Square's oldest and best hi-fi store, Audio Lab carries brands you might not recognize or give a crap about if you're not in the know. The expert employees service every piece of equipment they sell as well as any brand of home stereo equipment or VCR (repairs $30 for initial estimate; average repair $75-125). Walkmen, portable CD players, DVD players, and an extensive headphone selection. Good deals on used equipment.
