With its muted decor, local artwork, and lo-fi indie pop background music, warm and cozy 1369 Coffee House is the quintessential coffee-shop-away-from-home. The few extra blocks to Central or Inman are worth it for delicious, inventive drinks at non-franchise prices ($1.60-4.50). Regulars swear by the Almond Joy (hot chocolate with almond and coconut) and the Iced Grasshopper (mint chocolate latté), as well as the tempting coffee cake and fudge torte ($1.25-5). The few food options include a daily soup special, served in an overflowing glass mug, and a hummus plate ($4), perfect for sharing. Equipped with wireless internet, 1369 is equally welcoming to the studious and those looking for intimate conversation. A long list of teas and other coffee alternatives also available.
