Here in watch heaven, Rolex, TAG Heuer, Omega, and Panerai mix with a host of phenomenally beautiful and expensive haute horologie brands like A. Lange & Sohne, Blancpain, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and Vacheron Constantin. A knowledgeable sales group will happily describe the intricacies of every item, regardless of your age or attire. One of the best places in the square to gawk hopelessly and pick up free catalogs. Prices run $100-50,000. A recently expanded service center provides the highest quality of repair work, and the professional staff also offers jewelry appraisals.

If America is the melting pot of the world, ABP fulfills that function for the diverse denizens of Cambridge. Preppy students, homeless Spare Change salesmen, dazzled tourists, obsessive chessmasters, and the occasional trapped bird have congregated here for over twenty years, and the place shows no sign of losing its cosmopolitan flair. ABP serves up “gourmet fast food,” with fresh bread in many incarnations (bagels, sandwiches, and pastries $1-5). Catch the daily bake sale (4-6pm) at the Mass. Ave. location, when all pastries are 50% off. You'll also find ABP branches in Brattle Sq. and at 1100 Mass. Ave., toward Central. Also at 27 Brattle St. and 1100 Mass. Ave.
The Au Bon Pain at 27 Brattle Street in Harvard Square served as the location in "Good Will Hunting" where Will tries to explain himself to Harvard student Skylar.

A Harvard Square institution for over 70 years, Nini's caters to all sectors of the periodical-reading public, from the politically savvy to the world traveler to the ultra-fashion conscious to the pervert. Racks and racks of pornographic magazines crowd the store (yes, it's there behind the open-air newsstand), and often distract from the numerous other magazines and newspapers on sale. Also stocks an array of Harvard/Boston souvenirs (especially if you love silver-plated spoons) and a nice assortment of cigars. In general, it is a place good for Magazines, Cigars, Cigaretts and the odd bottle of juice when needed this magazine stand is just as big and stocked as it's slightly more famous neighbor. You can browse from the street corner or walk inside for more magazines and newspaper to choose from. The staff is pleasant, but not overly so.

About a fifth of the authors represented on the shelves of the Harvard University Press bookstore are Harvard-affiliated, including the reputable John Rawls, Stephen Jay Gould, and Patrice Higonnet. If you've got $8000 burning a hole in your pocket and a degree in Classics, the store also carries the entire Loeb Classical Library, a 496-volume collection of Latin and Greek texts ($21.50 each). The bargain book section is crammed with just about every book that HU Press has ever published, with paperbacks going for about $6 and hardcovers for $12. Harvard officers and staff receive a 10% discount.

What was originally designed as nothing more than a windy thoroughfare linking Harvard Yard with the river houses has emerged as a bustling center of activity, shopping, food, and art. The transformation has taken time, money, and a great deal of strategic planning.
Public restrooms: Up a short flight of stairs behind a guard's desk.

The warm, spacious interior of Selletto gives an oddly down-to-earth feel to a shop whose prices may often seem out-of-this-world. Specializing in upscale designer gifts that would otherwise require a trip to Newbury St., Selletto brings a touch of class and style to Harvard's Holyoke Center. If you're looking for an impressive gift for a parent or loved one, Selletto has the french-milled soaps ($7), lamps, vases, dishes, and other extravagant knickknacks that you would never think to buy for yourself. Their limited selection of reasonably priced stuffed animals make great last-minute gifts for birthdays. The friendly staff will help you make the perfect purchase and wrap it up beautifully to boot.
