A stop at this quintessentially Cambridge bar can make the territory between Harvard and Central seem a lot less like Siberia, even on a frigid winter night. The inside reveals an all-too-snug bar packed with the proletariat—and a sprinkling of area college students. An unassuming crowd is inviting to all; if you're having a bad hair day, it's too dark for anyone to notice, but be careful, since wayward darts might zip your way. (The dart boards are a carryover from long ago when the space was Drumlins, a towny darts bar.) People's is a great destination after the Cellar closes at 1am. All pint-sized drafts and bottles $4, Bud just $2.50. No cover. Cash only.

A haven for the area's folk scene—pop in to learn about upcoming concerts, find a balalaika tutor, or catch the weekly “old timey” jam (M 8pm), when anyone is invited to bring an instrument and play. Sandy's buys, sells, and repairs most stringed instruments, specializing in the “old or unusual,” so this may be the best place to go for mandolins, ukuleles, and banjos, and even the odd bodhran. The staff is unobtrusive, so ask if you have questions. New CDs can be pricey ($15+) but worth it if you are looking for local artists or compilations. Used records ($2-6) are more reasonable. The store also supports the UMass Boston's WUMB folk radio channel, 91.9FM in Boston.

Thank you for your contribution. You've taken a huge step to making Povo the "word on the street,"
and we appreciate it very much. Because of the complexity of the "wiki text" and code that can be used
on Povo, in order to edit this section in the future you must click the "edit" button to the right of the section
heading (or for the whole page).
Graffiti is a place for quick notes. Know the hours of a business but not sure where to put it? Did something just happen at this place? Leave some graffiti.
Sometimes street view does not point exactly to the right place. You may need to "drive around" a bit.
