Seek enlightenment on Mass. Ave. in between futon shopping with tea and dim sum at Cambridge's only Buddhist teahouse. Only a short walk from Harvard, this place is the real deal, housed in the Greater Boston Buddhist Cultural Center. The friendly Buddhist monks will gladly answer questions about the teahouse's meditaton services and Buddhist educational materials. Tea from ginseng to oolong is just $5 for a pot and a plate of nuts, while dim sum dumplings, turnip cakes, and custard buns are $3.50 a piece. Lunch specials include soup, 4 veggie dishes, and rice for only $6. Otherwise realign your chi at “Thank Buddha It's Friday” (2nd and 3rd Friday of each month): for a $10 donation (students $5) everyone can enjoy meditation, a vegetarian dinner, dharma talk on Buddhist values, and discussion between 6:30 and 9pm.

Halfway between Harvard and Central Square, India Castle serves up classic Indian cuisine in its large, casual interior. Though the menu presents a dizzying array of options, whatever dish you select will be marinated in curious spices leaving you anxious for another bite. The extensive variety of Indian breads ($2-4), plain or stuffed with lamb and spices, makes a great way to start your meal. If the spices prove too much, the refreshing “Mango Special Drink” and mango lassi (both $2.50) will cool down your scorched mouth. All-you-can-eat lunch buffet ($7) daily 11:30am-3:30pm. Free delivery. Entrees $11-20.

The “Buddhist giftshop” and bookstore offers everything from Buddha statues to Zen literature and CDs; 1½hr classes on meditation, tai chi, yoga, vegetarian cooking, and Chinese painting also available. Contrary to what its name might imply, the Door Store actually sells no doors whatsoever, although the original branch in New York did construct tables out of (suprise!) doors. Today the store features 25 different sizes, shapes, and materials (like cherry, maple, oak, and more) from which you can order your own custom-made table ($200+) or buy parts and construct one yourself ($100+). Then, illuminate your table with multiple styles of paper lanterns ($7-25) and hide it from street view with window shades ($14-22).

Thank you for your contribution. You've taken a huge step to making Povo the "word on the street,"
and we appreciate it very much. Because of the complexity of the "wiki text" and code that can be used
on Povo, in order to edit this section in the future you must click the "edit" button to the right of the section
heading (or for the whole page).
Graffiti is a place for quick notes. Know the hours of a business but not sure where to put it? Did something just happen at this place? Leave some graffiti.
Sometimes street view does not point exactly to the right place. You may need to "drive around" a bit.
