Just some little notes about myself.
First contact with the outside world: When I was 18, I moved to Detroit, which totally set the standard in my life for everything funky, junky, and down town. I came to Boston at the tender age of 20 and never left. This city is so diverse, it's easy to love.
Caffeine: I am a real sucker for Starbucks coffee, although I rarely buy it except as a special treat. My favorite drink is the classic Latte. In Philly someone I know likes to drink a 'wet' Cappuccino, which I was confused about. I asked how you make it wet, and when he described it to me I nodded. More milk and less foam. All those 'wet cap' lovers out there are kindred spirits who don't quite realize they're drinking Lattes.
Transit: Like many Bostonians, I have a love/hate relationship with the T. It's great when it works but sucks when you have to wait an hour in a foot of slush. Right now I'm a car driver, in my little Honda, taking up just that much more space on the roads. I'll take advantage of public transit more in the summer, now that I've moved to Malden near the subway. Some of my favorite city stops are in East Boston.
Outdoors: Every summer, I drive out to Western Mass for a camping trip. Or trek around the city to take photos. I also go mushroom hunting with friendly Boston mycologists. No, I have not eaten any of the mushrooms I found.
Boyfriending: Our favorite spots for 'date night' are: Ruth's Chris and La Summa.
Casual eats: I like it hot and cheap. Muqueca, Punjabi Dhaba, Santarpio's, Rosterica Cancun, and Sapporo Ramen.
Groceries: I'm totally loving the Super Stop and Shop in Malden, the king of convenience, not only for their budget wine selection, but for their olive bar and whole wheat tortillas. For fresh fish, I go to the family-owned New Deal Fish Market. They fillet it right there for you, and they really know their fish. When I'm looking to be more frugal, especially when it comes to rice and produce, I hit up the Super 88. That store is my favorite, right down to the pork buns they sell at the counter at the front. Not exactly pork, this filling mix contains egg and a variety of crazy unidentifiable meats. Tasty!
Shopping: When Victoria's Secret or the Gap is having a sale, I hit the Cambridgeside Galleria. Other than that, it's Tar-jay all the way. I've generally given up on malls or boutiques because it's hard to find my size, and for a woman as tall as 6'2" I don't really have the patience to hunt very long for clothes that fit. Sad but true.
Bridge Obsessed: My work at Povo has led me to an interest in the bridges of Metro Boston. Try to find all the bridges on this site. I'm determined to visit each and every one.
