Porter Square is a loosely defined neighborhood in Cambridge, located to the Northwest of Harvard Square and South of Somerville's Davis Square. The "center" of Porter is often considered to be at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Somerville Avenue, also the location of the Porter Square MBTA station. The square is named for the now-defunct Porter House Hotel, the namesake of the "porterhouse" cut of steak.
Notable landmarks in Porter Square include the art-deco style Porter Exchange mall, and Susumu Shingu's "Gift of the Wind," a kinetic wind-driven public sculpture. Although you won't find much of the hussle and bustle of Harvard, Inman or Davis squares, notable joints include Kaya (Korean food), the Elephant Walk (Fusion south east asian/French) and a profusion of shops (Pier 1 import, Shaw's, etc.) on Porter Square itself. Try also Simon's coffee store and Seoul Kitchen on Mass ave. between Porter and Harvard square.
